A Day in the Life of a Squashy Princess

During her quiet time, Kate usually plays with what we call her "squashy princesses." She loves dressing up and setting up these little movable princesses and usually when I come in to let her out of quiet time the princesses are set up in the most interesting ways.

Here is the whole gang (squashy princesses and friends) set up around her bed and on the window sill.

When Nana and Grandpa were visiting, my mom took this picture of the squashy princesses facing away from Kate...who was napping at the time. It was very generous of them to give Kate some privacy.

This day, all the friends were having a picnic. (On the pad that protects the diaper changing table...yummy)

I asked her what they were doing here and she gave me their names. Usually she doesn't name them (besides using their traditional princess names.) From left to right: Nicholas (I had to stick you in the crib, Nicholas), Savannah (the red hair sure is fitting), Aunt Cheri (Sorry, Uncle Greg, you didn't seem to make the grouping), No name--but she is flying, Ellie, Daddy, and Kate.

Today's creation: "They've been captured by Maleficent!"

This one is my favorite. "What are they doing, Kate?" "Praising the Lord" was her reply. Obviously!

It's so much fun to see her imagination at work!

This is so awesome. I love discovering things like this! Thanks for sharing! And hang in there, trust me I've done the stationed overseas without the husband always at sea/travelling thing and I know how hard it is!

The squashy princesses and her buddies are Kate's little family. She is mother to all of them. She is so creative in her play and many aspects of her life are played out in her quiet time. Isn't that fun!! I love to see the things that are in Kate's mind and how she reenacts them with her dolls. She really gives those dolls life.
Love,

L O V E. The princess theme is over and abundant in this house as well! Yeah for squashy princesses! (except the "squashy" doesn't really do it for me...) ;)

So what actually is the origin of the adjective "squashy?"

Tell Kate that the world is waiting to know!

I love the name squashy princesses, it seems to work quite well. Jamin once asked for a Sleeping Beauty squashy princess when he was about four, and that's the only one that he ever wanted. Now, he says that he wanted it so that I could have it. :) So, the whole reenacting real life things through play, now you know how play therapy works! :)

What an awesome imagination! I love it! Love to be a fly on the wall to hear all the conversation with the princesses!
By the way - I think the "Prising the Lord" group could be a great looking church choir!!

Love you - "the Californians"
