Miss Independent

I had to laugh at what happened today. As it's Sunday, we went to church. Kate has recently moved up to the older nursery class and is thrilled with all the new toys she gets to play with. There are little chairs and tables for her, a car to sit and play in, and babies to push in strollers. (Kate LOVES babies (baby dolls). She has two favorite ones that she carries around most of the day.)

Well, we arrive at the door to the nursery and usually there is some reticence on her part to leave us. She will wave and say bye to us, but it's better if she's distracted by something fun inside the room before we leave. (Totally typical, I know.) Today, she immediately fixated on the two babies just waiting for HER on the nearest table. Baby, baby! she said. Mommy and Daddy forgotten, she reached for the nursery volunteer who took her, put her down, and let her run to the babies. She never looked back, never said bye bye, never glanced our way. Jon and I looked at each other and said, oh, ok. I guess it's better this way. We'll just go.

But it was still sad. There WE were, ready to say goodbye and get our kisses from our sweet baby and she was off and running on to more exciting things. I'm sure it's just a small taste of what's to come. Honestly, I am very glad she can let us go so easily...most of the time. :)

What a sweet, sweet story! We would love to have seen Kate take off to get to those babies! God must be preparing her for the new REAL baby to come into her life. How well we understand the mixture of feelings at those first steps of independence...it lasts a lifetime! Love to you all...Gram + Pops

Preschool is worse, Cole would literally bolt from the car and never look back. It is a part of life, but it is hard to watch as they slowly mature and pull away. The thing is that you want her to do that, it is showing stability and maturity on her part...it is hard as the mama.

Pipsqueaks growing and growing. Wow, you look great! I think it's spring in DC, isn't it? Time to get that lavender jumper out that I made for you when you were pregnant with Kate. It was always too big. I think it might fit now. I love it that Kate loves babies. She is going to be a great help with her baby sister.
Hugs,
