11 Months and Moving!

Amazingly enough, Kate is eleven months already! Of course, plans for the big birthday shindig are well underway, but until we get there, we have three fun bits of Kate's growing up to share with you. This morning, I put her down for her morning nap and went downstairs. A few minutes later, I was surprised to hear music coming from her room. I snuck back up to check on her and saw she had pulled herself up enough to turn on the aquarium toy in her her crib. She was so proud of herself and kept turning it on and off until finally, she settled down to sleep.

Secondly, while I was feeding her, she reached for a card on the table. I said, that's an anniversary card from Aunt JoAnn. Immediately, she looked over my shoulder to the fridge where we have a picture of Aunt JoAnn. (She loves the pictures on the fridge and wants to look at them each time we enter the kitchen.) So Aunt JoAnn, she knows where to find you!

Finally, we were over at a good friend's house this afternoon. Kate was tooling around on the kitchen floor and was passing the fridge. She stopped and said, quite clearly, "da da da da." I looked more closely at the collection of pictures on the fridge and there, indeed, was our family Christmas picture, where she found her daddy. I was amazed. She is growing right before our eyes.

Enjoy this video of her crawling and playing with mom.

(P.S. Yes, the gate on the stairs is open...thankfully, she didn't notice!)

Six Years Together

Six years ago today, I became Jon's wife! It was one of the happiest days of my life. Thank you, Jon, for being the most fantastic husband in the world. I love our life together--where we've been, where we are, and of course, where we're going. Each day I thank the Lord for you and for the incredible ways He's blessed my life through you. I love you!

I wanted to share with our readers some pictures of the wedding and honeymoon:

Our honeymoon was a cruise to Alaska. We highly recommend it to anyone! Here we are dressed up for dinner at our special table.
This hike overlooked Ketchikan and we were fortunate enough to find someone to take our picture at the top.

Day Out with the Yohos

On Saturday we all drove down to Woodbridge to see our friends the Yohos. It turns out they have access to a pool (through their HOA) and free babysitting (from their parents) so we pretty much took the opporunity to mooch off them on a hot Virginia summer afternoon. Jon and Ryan had a chance to catch up on life, work, and politics. Lacey and Jen had a chance to compare notes on ... well I wasn't there so I'm exactly sure what they talked about.
Here's Ryan at the pool with their daughter Abigail and son James.

And later, back at the house, the kids all played, ate, and slept, while the parents snuck out for dinner.

Kate was fascinated by the fishing game.

Hope you had a great weekend. It's amazing how fast they fly by.

Miss Curiosity

Sometimes I can just see the wheels turning in Kate's head. And I'm sure I'm not the only mom with this ability! That child steered herself right up to the exersaucer and climbed right in. She was so proud of herself for accomplishing her goal--then she needed me to get her out. All she could do once she was there was roll over and look pitifully at me. It was pretty funny.

Stay Tuned

Despite popular belief, we have not dropped off the face of the earth. We just returned from a family vacation to Missouri, and more pictures are coming. Thanks for your patience! In the meantime, we thought we'd tantalize you with another shot of our sweet girl.

Also, to show that we have a little more variety in the blog, here's Beth and her boyfriend, Evan. Yes, he is taller than she is.

Congratulations, LT!

This last weekend, we were privileged to be a part of a good friend's commissioning ceremony. All around it was everyone's first commissioning: the recruiter, the recruit, and the commissioning officer. Despite a few issues, the ceremony went off great. It was at the Air Force Memorial, right next to the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery, with the Mall and Washington Monument in the background. What a backdrop! Despite how calm and collected everyone looks, it was STIFLING hot--kudos to Jon and Sgt. Kelley for hanging in there in those uniforms. Sadly, the Boylans will be leaving us in the fall for Georgia, but since they're active duty, we may yet be stationed at the same place. Congratulations to Lieutenant Boylan!
Jon giving a great speech.

The swearing in.

Husband and daughter (Darin and Malena) pinning on the new rank.

The whole, happy crew.
